June 20, 2023 - Switches Unlimited has announced the release of the new IO-Link Magnetic Position Sensor from Turck. This compact magnetic position sensor is used for precise detection of linear position in pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. The Turck WIM-UNTL-IOL series consists of eight sensors with IO-Link 1.1, covering measuring ranges from 32 mm to 256 mm. The new device has an integrated push-button. This enables users to teach the measuring range of sensors quickly and conveniently to the stroke of the pistons in the cylinder. The WIM-UNTL-IOL family of sensors is IP67-rated for durability and is typically used in the automotive industry and in plastics processing. Applications include monitoring foil tension, automatic screwing machines, feed detection in injection molding machines and plastic injection systems. The linear position sensors provide an output signal proportional to the position of the piston rod of a pneumatic cylinder. This signal can be used to accomplish control tasks and the polarity of the magnet has no effect on the output signal. The rugged sensors deliver optimal repeatability, resolution and linearity and offer a high level of electromagnetic compatibility, as well as a wide temperature range. |

The IO-Link and the integrated pushbutton enable users to “teach” the measuring range of sensors quickly and conveniently to the stroke of the pistons in the cylinder. This simplifies mounting compared to analog sensors, as these have to be fitted either exactly to the dead points or operate with correction factors in the controller. The IP67 sensors operate with a 15-bit resolution.
